"The Invisible Man Will Not Be Seen Tonight"

The crumbling old Bijou theater, long noted for showing classic midnight horror flicks, is finally closing. Did you see it? (It was in all the papers!) Having had a pang of nostalgia when he read about it, Dad has decided to take the kids to see the Bijou's very last picture show, hoping to give them an experience they will long remember.

Little does he know!

As they come down the block, Dad's attention is focused on the marquee. He's puzzled: The old Claude Raines film he'd promised the kids has been pulled. Nevertheless, he's nowhere near as shocked as his kids, who are checking out the box-office line.

It seems that several of the former denizens of the Bijou -- faces we'll all recognize -- have waxed nostalgic, and have also decided to bid the beloved old theater farewell!

The title, The Invisible Man Will Not Be Seen Tonight, which I particularly love, was the winning entry in my "Name That Painting" contest for January. It was submitted by Candace C. The Ghoul Board (which judges these sorts of things) agreed at once that, among a crypt-load of great entries, this was the one!  As soon as the decision was handed up, I added the poster just to the left of the lobby entrance to tie in with the title.

This was a complex painting, as readers of News From The Haunted Studio know. They've seen it as a "work in progress" over the last several months' issues. From beginning to end, this painting required close to six months, and over fifty sketches, to arrive at the final image!
