You've read about the Graves Mansion, haven't you? The huge, abandoned pile of Victorian turrets and towers that suddenly vanished --yes, disappeared -- from Elm Street late one chilly October night?

No? Well, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. The newspapers hushed it up. They didn't want to risk embarrassment if the whole thing turned out to be a hoax. And the local folks felt creepy dealing with something they just couldn't explain.

But it's certainly a fact that the old Graves Mansion was there one day and gone the next! Vanished! Now just try and deny that! (Which some people still vehemently do!)

A few doubters have gone so far as to deny that the mansion ever existed. Which would have really ticked off old Abigail Graves, had she been alive to hear it. She'd lived there for all 86 of her years!

All the same, it was difficult to argue with that ragged mansion-sized hole at the corner of Elm and Larkspur -- bits of foundation and twisted old pipes sticking up out of it -- where the old eyesore had been standing the previous day as the sun set!

Later, a trio of trick-or-treaters, who had been making their rounds that evening, came forward and told a reporter that they'd seen the mansion rise silently into the night sky, surrounded by a great swarm of bats.

Of course, no one believed them.
